The 2024 International Emmy Awards celebrated global television in New York, with winners from 21 countries. Notable winners included Drops of God for best drama series, Timothy Spall for best actor, Aokbab-Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying for best actress, División Palermo for best comedy, and Liebes Kind for best miniseries.
In the best drama category, Apple TV+’s Drops of God won over The Newsreader, Yosi, the Regretful Spy, and the Indian adaptation The Night Manager. Renowned British actor Timothy Spall won the best actor award at the ceremony for his role in the BBC true-crime story The Sixth Commandment, adding the International Emmy to his BAFTA TV award for portraying Peter Farquhar. He competed against Brazilian star Julio Andrade for Living on a Razor’s Edge, Laurent Lafitte for the French Netflix show Class Act, and Haluk Bilginer for the Turkish crime drama Sahsiyet.
Aokbab-Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying won best actress for her role in the Thai drama Hunger on Netflix. The category also featured Jessica Hynes (There She Goes), Sara Giraudeau (Tout va bien), and Adriana Barraza (El Último Vagón). In the comedy section, Argentina’s División Palermo won the award. This Netflix series follows social minorities forming a neighborhood protection unit, surpassing Australia’s Deadloch, South Korea’s Daily Dose of Sunshine, and France’s HPI.
Indian stand-up comic and actor Vir Das, a 2023 International Emmy winner for his Netflix special Landing, hosted this year’s awards. He is currently on his international Mind Fool tour.
Lupin star Omar Sy, producer Michael Pressman, and Jane Seymour were presenters. Sy presented the International Emmy Directorate Award to Sidonie Dumas, CEO of Gaumont, while David E. Kelley received the International Emmy Founders Award from Pressman.
