Bong Joon-ho’s highly anticipated movie Mickey 17 has seen its original release date of March 29th “delayed indefinitely” according to Warner Bros. The delay resulted from a halt in filming during the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strikes. Godzilla x Kong has now replaced the release slot: The New Empire, originally set to premiere on April 12.
It is rumored that the delay will result in Mickey 17 premiering at the Cannes Film Festival this upcoming May.

There is a lot of buzz surrounding the thrilling Mickey 17 as this is one of Bong’s first releases since winning an Oscar for his release Parasite in 2019. Producers Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, and Dooho Choi will work on the film alongside Bong.
The story has been adapted by Bong in preparation for the big screen based on Edward Ashton's dystopian science fiction novel “Mickey7.” The main character - Mickey 17 will star Robert Pattison in its main role as Mickey, alongside Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo.
The story follows protagonist Mickey, defined as an expendable space explorer: a throwaway employee who is sent on a mission to colonise the frosty ice world of Niflheim. The rest of the crew always count on Mickey when a mission becomes too treacherous for them to handle. When one version of Mickey dies, his body can be regenerated with many of his memories still intact making the character essentially immortal.
When one of these missions goes wrong and Mickey presumably dies, a new Mickey is conceived – this comes with an issue however, two versions of an expendable existing at the same time prove to be an unwelcome concept. The two Mickeys join forces and work together to ensure their survival in Niflheim, and the outcome of the now collapsing civilisation upon their mission to colonise the territory.
The last teaser for Mickey 17 was released in December of 2022, anticipating fans have been left hanging for quite some time now. Will the delay allow us to see more Mickey 17 trailers arrive in the meantime?
