“I loved it.” After Deadpool & Wolverine Chris Evans explains How he returned as Johnny Storm

Despite the belief that Evans was done with his appearances in Marvel’s films, he was more than willing to return for a quick cameo in the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine - though, not in the way fans were expecting.

Directed by Shawn Levy, Deadpool & Wolverine stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as their respective characters saving their universes from an all-powerful villain played by Emma Corrin. Among the various appearances of Wesley Snipes, Jennifer Garner, and Channing Tatum assuming their roles from 20th Century FOX’s previous movies of the

X-Men, Chris Evans took to reprising a previous role of his - Johnny Storm from the 2005 Fantastic Four film.

Did Ryan Reynolds text Chris Evans about appearing in Deadpool & Wolverine?

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Evans talked about how his cameo came to be. “[Ryan] just shot me a text saying, 'Listen, might be a long shot, but would you have any interest in reprising something from 20 years ago?’ I said, 'Oh my God! Of course.´ After a personal contact from Ryan Reynolds himself, the 43 year-old actor was more than willing to appear in the film.

Evans’ interest was further boosted by his positive impression of Reynolds’ acting talent. “His self-awareness makes him almost invincible. He makes the joke before the audience gets a chance to make the joke, so if you're going to revisit a character and you have to find a way to make it work, Ryan's humor makes just about everything work, so you feel an automatic sense of safety.”

How fast did Chris Evans complete filming for

Deadpool & Wolverine?

While Evans was up for the appearance, he was not in any position to spend a long time on set due to arrangements. Unfortunately, this relegated Evans to a minor cameo appearance in the film, with his aforementioned reprise of Storm. "I just had to fly in real quick, do a couple days of filming, and fly out...for me, it was pretty easy."

How does Chris Evans feel being back in his suit from Fantastic Four?

With it being nearly two decades since Evans last put on his costume for the character of Johnny Storm for the filming of the Fantastic Four movies,

he found the “experience” of wearing the costume to be much smoother this time around. He explains, "Primarily because where we find Johnny, he's meant to be a little more rundown, so the costume didn't have to be pristine," he explains. "Those first two movies, that's when Marvel was really still trying to find their footing. So everything had to be very precise and had a lot of meetings, a lot of opinions. This was a little more like, 'Yeah, we know it. We've seen it.'"

Will the original Fantastic Four films get another

sequel?

It’s hard to say if the “fantastic” series of films directed by Tim Story will receive a follow up. While Marvel Studios has reacquired the rights to the Fantastic Four, we know that a significant project is coming with the reveal at Comic Con 2024 that another production would be made in the Fantastic Four universe.

With all the exciting presence and news swirling around, Evans still looks back on the original movies with warm feelings. "Those were a big chapter of my life. I was 23 when I did the first one, and it was my first bigger studio film. I had done a couple movies at that point, but nothing at that level. These careers are little milestones, little corners that you round. Doing that movie, you turn a corner and it just feels like it brought me to the next level of my career. I loved working with the people that were on that film. I loved the role. It was nothing but love and affection for that time."
