Jeremy Renner Talks About His Recovery From Snow Plow Accident: ‘I’m 25% Titanium, So Forget Iron Man’

Jeremy Renner, who experienced a life-threatening snow plow accident in January 2023, discussed his recovery during a live talk at Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea Film Festival on Tuesday. When asked about any “limitations” due to his injuries, he responded, “I don’t think of it as limitations – even though I’m 25% titanium, so fuck Iron Man.”

Renner, widely recognized for his role as Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has made a remarkable comeback to acting after the accident left him with blunt chest trauma and 30 broken bones. “It’ll be two years in January, and I am very, very proud to overcome a great adversity in my life, and I’m forever grateful for all the love and support I’ve gotten from people all around the world, even those I never knew existed, that helped propel me to get better, and it’s the only thing that really kind of defines me in my life at this point,” he said to Variety.

"I'm currently working on a book about it. Throughout this trip, I've been doing the final edit, so it's quite fresh in my mind, even though I've tried to set it aside many times. There are so many incredible gifts that come from being pushed to the brink of death. I did die and returned for a reason that has nothing to do with me. If it were up to me, I would have preferred to stay. But I came back, and I'm glad to be here."

Renner went back to the set of the Taylor Sheridan Paramount+ series “Mayor of Kingstown” in January of this year to shoot the third season, where he portrays Mike McLusky. He also recently performed in Rian Johnson’s forthcoming mystery “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery,” marking his first movie role since his snow plow accident. Daniel Craig returned as private detective Benoit Blanc in the film, which concluded filming this summer in London and is scheduled for release next fall, he mentioned.

"It's an amazing cast," he remarked. The ensemble features "Fleabag" star Andrew Scott, Kerry Washington, Glenn Close, "Challengers" newcomer Josh O’Connor, and "Priscilla's" Cailee Spaeny. "We had a lot of fun creating it. I believe audiences will truly enjoy watching this third installment of the series," he stated. Renner is recognized for "The Hurt Locker" and "The Town," both earning him Oscar nominations, as well as blockbusters like "Avengers: Endgame."
