In the Playlist’s episode entitled “The Discourse,” Jude Law, the English Oscar-nominated actor, has publicly admitted his refusal to play Superman's role in a potential film directed by Brett Ratner 20 years ago.
But what is the real reason behind it? As declared in the podcast, he realized his intention by only looking at the suit he was supposed to wear. Law explained, “I tried it on, and I looked in the mirror and part of me initially was like, ‘Wow, this would be a [good thing],’ and then I just thought, ‘No, you can’t … you can’t do this. You can’t.’ And I didn’t sell myself to myself. And I stepped away and the film never happened anyway. So maybe it probably wouldn’t have done anything.”
The suit under discussion was not the one Christopher Reeve actually wore. Indeed, Law clarified, “It was not the Reeve suit. It was kind of like it was more metallic.” Despite that, in The Playlist article, the author admits that even though he can fit in the superhero’s role, Law would not be the ideal character for it, especially when comparing him to Henry Cavill. But no matter if Jude Law did not manage to play Superman's role… he now belongs to the almost-Superman actors group!
