L’Événement: complaint film

L'ÉVÉNEMENT by Audrey Diwan, seems set during the Middle Ages, in reality it is France in the 1960s. It won the Golden Lion at the 78th edition of the Venice International Film Festival. It is based on the autobiographical novel of the same name from Annie Ernaux from 2000, it is now in theaters with Europictures.

Anne (Anamaria Vartolomei) is the protagonist of the film. A young college girl with lots of dreams to fulfill. She could not compromise her future. When she became pregnant, she did everything. She clashed with the society of the time, abortion was prohibited. She was ready to face legal and not legal means to solve her problem. Like a thriller, the narrative accelerates with the development of the pregnancy and the scenes become more and more explicit.

“It's not a film about abortion, but about women's freedom. When I was young, I had to have an abortion. I was able to do it legally, without risking my life: in the hospital and complete safety. For previous generations this was not possible and still today it is not possible in many countries ” says the director.
