Like “The Bear”, but with ghosts: House of Spoils

In “House of Spoils”, a film debuting on Prime Video on October 3rd, the protagonist is a young and talented chef who fulfills her dream of opening her first restaurant. However, she must deal with the chaos of the kitchen, a vaguely reluctant investor, and the weight of her own ambitions and doubts about her abilities.

Does it remind you of something?

If you’re a viewer of “The Bear”, you can’t help but notice the similarities with the popular series that has reached its third season. Yet, far from being merely a clone, “House of Spoils” complicates the storyline further by turning this premise into a full-fledged horror film, complete with ghosts and disturbing visions.

The old farmhouse that the protagonist transforms into a restaurant appears to be haunted by the spirit of its previous owner, who seems determined to sabotage the culinary and business venture at every turn. The film was written and directed by Bridget Savage Cole and Danielle Krudy. Ariana DeBose, who won an Oscar, Golden Globe, BAFTA, and Screen Actors Guild Award for her role as Anita in Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story”, stars as the chef. She is joined by a cast that includes Barbie Ferreira, Arian Moayed, Amara Karan, Mikkel Bratt Silset, and Marton Csokas. Below is the official trailer for “House of Spoils”, which Prime Video describes as "a tense, psychological, and sensual thriller that will leave you with your heart racing and your appetite whetted."
