Matthew McConaughey has now joined the cast as one of the starring actors in the crime thriller “The Rivals of Amziah King”.
The film is written and directed by film director Andrew Paterson. While the plot details of “Amziah King” are being kept hush-hush, the press release unveiled the film to be “deeply atmospheric, character-focused crime thriller set against the the unique backdrop of remote Oklahoma”.
McConaughey won an Academy Award for the biopic “Dallas Buyers Club” (2013) and got an Emmy nomination for HBO’s “True Detective.”. Earlier on, McConaughey starred in the sci-fi film “Interstellar” (2014) by Christopher Nolan and the action-comedy “The Gentleman” (2019) by Guy Ritchie.
“The Rivals of Amziah King”' will be Patterson’s follow-up to his well known sci-fi mystery “The Vast of Night” (2019), which premiered at the Slamdance Film Festival in 2019 and was acquired by Amazon Studios. Patterson won the Bingham Ray Breakthrough Director Award at the 2021 Gotham Awards and earned him an Independent Spirit Award for best first screenplay, shared with co-writer Craig W. Sanger.
Black Bear International will launch international sales in Cannes. “The Rivals of Amziah King” will be put up for sales among other films such as the triller “Shell” starring Kate Hudson, Elisabeth Moss and Kaia Gerberand, the romance “On Swift Horses” with Daisy Edgar Jones, Will Poulter and Jacob Elordi, as well as an untitled action film by Guy Ritchie starring Henry Cavill and Jake Gyllenhaal.
