Big news for Lord of the Rings fans. Read till the end to not miss any!
1. LORD OF THE RINGS: THE HUNT FOR GOLLUM
For the joy of many fans, a new addition to the saga is in the works, exactly twenty-three years after the release of The Fellowship of the Ring, although set shortly after that.
It will likely cover the period when Gandalf discovers Bilbo's ring, begins to have doubts about its origin, and then sends Aragorn to search for Gollum.
Which Tolkien writings should you read?
To best prepare, the information for this story is revealed throughout the trilogy and in the famous Appendices of The Return of the King.
Knowing that Gandalf had previously tasked Aragorn with finding and capturing Gollum to gather information about the Ring, the question naturally arises: will there be any big returns? If so, which actors might we see again?
Let's start with our one certainty: Andy Serkis as Gollum (and also as the director). Obviously, the actor will once again portray the famous character using motion capture.
Given Tolkien's narrative, it seems almost inevitable to see Gandalf and Aragorn in the film. However, there might be a small problem:
Viggo Mortensen is now 65 years old and would need to play a much younger Aragorn, which could be difficult with just makeup. Will the production opt for CGI or perhaps a recast?
Two other characters we might see again are Thranduil, considering Lee Pace is 45 and could be made to look younger with some tweaks, and finally Bilbo, which would mean a return of Martin Freeman, since the original Bilbo actor, Ian Holm, sadly passed away in 2020.
2. LORD OF THE RINGS: THE WAR OF THE ROHIRRIM
Another new addition, an animated film produced by Warner Bros., titled The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.
Recently, these spectacular first images have been released, showcasing a unique style, though it's unclear if they are actual frames from the film or just concept art used for storyboarding. In either case, they manage to recreate an atmosphere very much in line with the original setting, not disappointing expectations.
From what we know, the film will specifically tell the story of Helm Hammerhand: the ninth king of Rohan, the last of his line, who also gave his name to Helm's Deep.
The story of the War of the Rohirrim is set 183 years before the events depicted in Peter Jackson's film trilogy and will be narrated by Éowyn, played by Miranda Otto.
The cinema release date is set for December 13, 2024.
3. LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RINGS OF POWER
Lastly, a few days ago, Prime Video announced the arrival of the second season of the acclaimed TV series The Rings of Power.
Along with the trailer, a new poster was revealed showing the return of Charlie Vickers as Sauron and the release date, which is August 29, 2024.
We will continue to follow the events told in the first part, and the Dark Lord will once again be at the center of attention because, after being banished by Galadriel, he starts rebuilding his empire, overseeing the creation of the Rings of Power, which will allow him to gain ultimate power and thus subjugate all the peoples of Middle-earth to his dark will.
