The National Federation of Thai Film Associations (MPC) announced on Friday that Thailand has chosen director Pat Boonnitipat's heartwarming hit How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies as its entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 2025 Oscars.
The film, co-written by Boonnitipat and Thodsapon 'Ped' Thiptinnakorn, has become a cultural sensation in Thailand, surpassing all other films in terms of box office earnings this year. Produced by the renowned Bangkok-based studio GDH, the movie resonates with audiences through its unconventional yet touching narrative about a young man who cunningly leaves his job to look after his ailing grandmother in the hopes of inheriting her wealth. A significant factor in the film's popularity is the portrayal of the grandson by pop singer-turned-actor Putthipong Assaratanakul, also known as Billkin.

How to Make Millions has grossed $34 million from its theatrical releases in Southeast Asia and Australia/New Zealand, establishing itself as the highest-grossing Thai film ever in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines and Myanmar. Following successful screenings in the U.S. and China, GDH has announced that the film is on the verge of reaching the $50 million milestone at the global box office.
Concerning its Oscar nomination, GDH pointed out that the movie in Thailand has drawn audiences of various age groups to theaters. People in their 20s are accompanied by their 70- to 80-year-old grandparents to watch the film together, a scene that is becoming less common in the current digital age.
