The movie starring Olivia Colman is the filmic adaptation of the novel written by the famous Elena Ferrante.
“The Lost Daughter” is about a 40-years-old university Professor, Leda: during a vacation in Greece, she meets a family from Queens and she spends the rest of her holidays thinking about her own family. In particular, Leda has a difficult relationship with her two 20-something daughters, and she debates with herself about her job as a mother.
The movie, the directorial debut of Maggie Gyllenhaal, challenges the conventional ideal of motherhood and opens up a space of reflection about womanhood itself.
