The highly anticipated live-action remake of the beloved Disney Classic HERCULES, 1997 (directed by Ron Clements and John Musker), is supposed to return the Hero to our big screens thanks to the Russo brothers (directors of Avengers Endgame), who will be the producers through their production company AGBO.
However, based on what they reiterated in Scotland during an appearance at the Sands: International Film Festival in St Andrews, it doesn't seem like the film will see the light of day in the near future. In fact, the project appears to have been shelved for the time being.
Joe and Anthony Russo revealed that they are still waiting for a script. This isn't good news for fans, considering they began developing their live-action version of the Disney film when it was announced back in 2020.
The new version is expected to be in the style of some of Disney's recent adaptations of classic films like The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and Beauty and the Beast, with songs from the animated film as well as new songs specifically written for it.
This delay could be due to Guy Ritchie stepping down as director of the project some time ago.
Hoping for a replacement director or some miracle, some loyal fans continue to hope for new updates on this.
