Lionsgate Acquire Distribution rights for Biblical epic “The Chosen”

The biblical hit series directed by Dallas Jenkins, “The Chosen”, is coming back for a fourth season. Lionsgate has acquired the sub-licensing distribution rights worldwide to the series.

Actors that star in “The Chosen” include, Jonathan Roumie as Jesus, Shahar Isaac as Simon Peter, Paras Patel as Matthew, Elizabeth Tabish as Mary Magdalene, Lara Silva as Eden and David Amito as John the Baptist.

Filming of the fourth season of “The Chosen” began in March 2023, and the season will probably be released in 2024. As the making of season 4 has started, the show has posted some videos that give us a look into the upcoming episodes.

One glimpse shows some props and furniture that will “dress” the set in season 4. Another video that was released, was from the first day of filming the upcoming season, in which Dallas Jenkins says, “I do believe that Season 4 is not going to be quite as complicated: walking on water, the feeding of the 5,000, this season is not as complex. Now it’s just as intense and significant and the storylines are very, very emotional.”

Jenkins also added that “Season 4, I think, so far is going to be our most emotionally challenging season,” he later on continued, ”There was the year of preparation, the year of population is happening and he’s increasing in popularity. Season 4 is where it starts to turn.”

Details of the plot are unknown. However, it has been revealed that season 4 will feature the death of John the Baptist. This will be filmed at the same part of the set that was used for Eden’s mikvah.

As mentioned, Lionsgate has acquired the distribution rights for the show. When commenting on this in a press release, Dallas Jenkins said that “Lionsgate is perfect for us. They’re strong and experienced in the areas we’re not, but they also understand what’s unique about us and will protect that.”

Jim Packer, who is Lionsgate’s President of Worldwide Television Distribution, explained that “The more I learned about ‘The Chosen’, the more I wanted to ensure that it is on the best platforms across the globe. (…) We’re excited by the opportunity to elevate this incredible property to the next level of worldwide recognition and popularity.”

“The Chosen” has had over 110 million viewers from 175 countries, however, the series still wants to expand even further. The “Come and See” foundation has plans to make the series available in 600 languages.

No matter if you are Christian or not, if you have not yet watched the previous season of “The Chosen”, it is worth going back and doing so, because this upcoming season will truly be fantastic and take you on an emotional ride you won't forget.
