The "Sex and the City" star, Sarah Jessica Parker, has revealed why she had a no- nudity condition while playing her character in the series, even though the title suggests plenty of nudity.
The comedy revolves around the lives of four women who are living in New York City. The series shows the issues of the late 90’s and early 2000s. The show goes on for six seasons. However, it has also had a spin-off and multiple movies. In all of these, Sarah Jessica Parker has played the character Carrie Bradshaw.
Her role quickly became an internet sensation. Nevertheless, Parker wasn’t interested in taking part in any nude scenes whatsoever in “Sex and the City”. She spoke out about this in an interview on “The Howard Stern Show”. There she explained that she had asked the creator of Sex and the City, Darren Star, to avoid nudity in the show, already early in the production.
This is what she said on “The Howard Stern Show”: “I thought the script was really interesting, and really exciting, and different, and fresh, and I’d never seen anything like that. The only thing I said to [Darren Star] that I was concerned about was that I just didn’t feel comfortable doing nudity, and I suspected that if it wasn’t in the pilot, it would be a part of a series. He said, ‘Don’t do it then... we’ll have other actors, if they feel comfortable doing it they’ll do it, but you do not have to’. I think I was just shy, I think I just never felt comfortable exposing myself that was, and I never had any judgment about anybody else doing it. It wasn’t like a morality thing, if somebody else felt comfortable doing it, I was admiring of them. But, I just never felt comfortable being nude, didn’t think it would change a perception of me, or create opportunities that I might not be interested in. I was shy.”
Nevertheless, the series truly does not need nudity to be the hit show that it is, so maybe it was a good choice from Parker, to keep her character as sophisticated as possible.
