A film out of competition, presented on September 1st at the Venice Film Festival, directed by Jon Watts (director of the latest Spider-Man trilogy).
With a lighter tone compared to many documentaries or films usually seen at the festival, Wolfs entertained the audience for almost two hours without ever becoming boring, eliciting big laughs at several moments throughout the movie.
After 16 years, the two Oscar-winning actors return to the big screen together after Burn After Reading (2008), once again showing great chemistry, even though their characters can’t stand each other.
What is it about?
The movie starts with a woman (Amy Ryan) in a luxurious hotel’s penthouse suite urgently needing a fixer: those who take care of cleaning up messy situations, erasing traces, and disposing of bodies. Incredibly, two fixers show up, and since they are so-called "lone wolves," they are not willing to cooperate or even acknowledge each other. But as things unfold, the situation escalates exponentially within a few minutes, and they find themselves forced to work as a team to try to solve this mess.
With Brad Pitt, as usual full of himself, cocky and arrogant, irritating a tired, impatient, and solitary George Clooney, the beloved duo bring back vibes similar to Deadpool and Wolverine: they never stop bickering and joking, making the film an enjoyable and lively action-comedy.
A commercial film, but a quality one, a so-called light-hearted movie full of jokes and banter, blood and chases, self-deprecating gags, and shootouts on a cold night in New York, all set to the rhythm of Smooth Operator.
The feature also required a third wheel: Austin Abrams did an excellent job alongside the two superstars and was the undisputed protagonist of some of the film's funniest scenes.
After the massive crowd of excited fans who welcomed the cast on the red carpet at the Lido, many fans are undoubtedly eager to see the film, which unfortunately won’t be shown on the big screen, but will be coming directly to Apple TV soon.
